Whilst the vocal lines are natural and approachable, the harmonic language is rich and complex, and therefore most suitable for experienced choirs. The piece draws on jazz, musical theatre and perhaps even a touch of Disney to bring the text to life, and is dedicated, with love, to the composer\u2019s wife. It is available to view and purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/shall-i-compare-thee-to-a-summers-day-satb-693281.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eight Wistful Songs <\/strong>&#8211; Composed for solo voice and piano, this collection, whilst ultimately classical, nevertheless draws on the composer\u2019s love of musical theatre and even jazz to create something that is light in style but emotionally charged. Two versions of the score &#8211; low voice and high voice &#8211; are available to purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/profiles\/jamiewhall\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Balulalow <\/strong>&#8211; Winner of the Kantos Carol Competition 2025, this setting for 6-part SSATBB choir was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 as part of their Carols from Temple Church programme. The score is available <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/balulalow-ssatbb-692360.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drop, Drop, Slow Tears <\/strong>&#8211; A jazz-influenced setting for unaccompanied SSATBB, which really wrings the emotion out of beautiful and familiar words. The score is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/drop-drop-slow-tears-ssatbb-693742.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dust of Snow<\/strong> &#8211; Commissioned by soprano Rebecca Lea, as part of her New Winter Songbook album, this short setting of words by Robert Frost, for solo soprano and piano, has since been published by Hal Leonard. The score is available to purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheetmusicdirect.com\/se\/ID_No\/1853551\/Product.aspx?utm_source=halleonard&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;campaign=search_results\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Capybara! <\/strong>&#8211; A prize-winning show-stopper for unaccompanied SSATB choir, this homage to one of the world\u2019s most beloved animals was awarded the Audience Prize in the inaugural Nova Consort Composition Competition in 2025. The score, along with a recording, can be found <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/capybara-ssatb-691238.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. This piece is dedicated to the composer\u2019s son, Alexander, who loves Capybara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Crossing the Bar <\/strong>&#8211; Beautifully simple yet effective setting of timeless words by Tennyson, now available to purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/crossing-the-bar-satb-693452.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. Unaccompanied SATB. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Annunciation<\/strong> &#8211; A setting for 4-part upper voices (SSAA) of words by 19th Century priest-poet John B. Tabb. The music &#8211; first performed by ARS NOVA Copenhagen &#8211; attempts to convey the intense emotions which must have been felt by the young Mary in response to the Archangel\u2019s words. The score can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/the-annunciation-ssaa-693617.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>God So Loved the World <\/strong>&#8211; A simple unaccompanied SATB setting of familiar words from John\u2019s Gospel, with more than a passing nod to the great John Stainer. This piece, originally for 3 voices, is now available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/god-so-loved-the-world-2352523\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preces and Responses <\/strong>&#8211; Suitable for use during Choral Evensong and Matins, this set was composed for the centenary celebrations of the BBC Singers in 2024, and broadcast in October of that year as part of Radio 3\u2019s broadcast of Choral Evensong, conducted by David Hill. These responses are now available <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.encorepublications.com\/publications.shtml#hall_j\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> from Encore Publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tantum Ergo<\/strong> &#8211; This setting is dedicated to the composer\u2019s great friend and Best Man, Christopher Larley. Written for unaccompanied SATB choir in a harmonic language evoking the great French organist-composers of the 20th Century, it was first performed by Cambridge University Schola Cantorum, and is available for purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/tantum-ergo-satb-691460.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>God be in my Head <\/strong>&#8211; A deceptively simple, reflective and spacious setting of familiar words for unaccompanied SATB choir. The piece is dedicated to the memory of the composer\u2019s mother. Copies can be purchased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoreexchange.com\/scores\/god-be-in-my-head-satb-691475.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Two Simple Carols <\/strong>&#8211; <em>Adam Lay Ybounden, <\/em>&amp; <em>Gold, and Frankincense, and M<\/em>yrrh. These short and approachable settings for unaccompanied SATB choir are available <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/two-simple-carols\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications, and also appear in versions for SAB choir as part of the composer\u2019s collection <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/the-great-chishill-motets-volume-2---advent-to-candlemas\" target=\"_blank\">The Great Chishill Motets Volume 2 &#8211; Advent to Candlemas.<\/a> <\/em><strong>\u201cThere is much to admire in the variety of textures, voice ranges suitable for everyone, and all the vocal lines having equal importance\u201d<\/strong> &#8211; James L. Montgomery, RCSM Church Music Quarterly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lisa\u2019s Carol <\/strong>&#8211; A setting of Christina Rossetti\u2019s text <em>Love Came Down at Christmas,<\/em> this piece was composed as gift for Jamie\u2019s wife Lisa, and performed immediately after his very public proposal in December 2022 &#8211; part of a carol service which he was conducting and at which Lisa was the star soprano. The piece contains a single note solo for soprano, a little joke for Lisa herself! It is available to purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/lisas-carol-love-came-down-at-christmas\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications. Written for unaccompanied SATB the piece has been performed by groups such as Sonoro and the BBC Singers, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>O Nata Lux &#8211; <\/strong>This carol for unaccompanied SATB choir, was performed, recorded and broadcast all over the world in the run up to Christmas 2023 as part of the composer\u2019s #ChoirsAgainstCancer campaign, which has, to date, raised over \u00a320,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care. The piece, which also comes in versions for unaccompanied ATBarB, and for SAB, is available to purchase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/o-nata-lux-satb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Great Chishill Motets Volume 1 &#8211; Five Motets for Holy Week<\/strong> &#8211; This collection is the first in a series of approachable pieces for unaccompanied three-part (SAB) choir, suitable for Christian worship. It is available to purchase <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/publishers\/banks-music-publications\/the-great-chishill-motets-volume-1---holy-week\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications. It is available to purchase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk\/three-voice-parts\/three-voice-parts\/for-the-fallen-45\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> from Banks Music Publications, and &#8211; unusually &#8211; the unaccompanied SATB version is printed alongside a version for three-part (SAB) choir. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Soul\u2019s Flight <\/strong>&#8211; for 2-part upper voices, solo melody instrument and piano, and based on Bach\u2019s <em>Jesu Joy of Man\u2019s Desiring<\/em>, the composer sets his own words about the joy of singing together. The piece is part of <em>A KJV Songbook, <\/em>and can be heard and downloaded for free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kjvchoir.org\/souls-flight-by-jamie-w-hall-from-just-sing-a-kjv-songbook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Curiouser &amp; Curiouser <\/strong>&#8211; Three settings of words by Lewis Carroll composed for Cambridge-based children\u2019s choir KJV, and part of their new publication <em>A KJV Songbook. <\/em>The score, along with a recording of KJV in action, can be found <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kjvchoir.org\/curious-and-curiouser-3-lewis-carroll-songs\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and downloaded for free. CONTENTS: <em>How Doth the Little Crocodile, The Lobster Quadrille, Soup of the Evening. <\/em>For 2-part upper voices and piano. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To Every Thing\u2026<\/strong> &#8211; An early concert work which owes much to the composer\u2019s experiences working with the BBC Singers, alongside some of the UKs most prolific contemporary composers. Comprised of four movements; <em>Spring, Summer, Autumn,<\/em> and <em>Winter; <\/em>Reuben Thomas\u2019 poetry charts the seasons of life, from birth to death, in a complex contemporary choral language which offers a thrilling challenge to experienced choirs. The composer\u2019s own favourite moment is a rendering, in sound, of the moment a child jumps into a puddle.
